I first met four of my girlfriends, whom we lovingly call our group the Inner Circle, at a sorority meeting for Sigma Gamma Rho during the early 1990’s. Iris, the later friend is actually the birth sister of my line sister Donna. Our friendship has endured more than twenty years. We’ve witnessed marriages, divorces, births, graduations and sadly the death of parents. My parents have lovingly adopted all of my girlfriends as their own daughters. That’s a testament to how close we are. There are times that we are painfully honest with each other, but will drop everything in a minute if we’re needed. They are smart, funny as hell and beautiful. My sister-in-law Rhonda is such an inspiration. She and Donna are teachers by profession and serve as my sounding board and mentors as I start preparing for a new career in education. I value each friendship and think of them not only as my friends but my sisters.
